Dr Shilpa Khanna

Sangwari, India

Dr Shilpa Khanna is a physician specializing in Anesthesia and Palliative Medicine. As a co-founder of Sangwari, an organization dedicated to health equity, she has spent over a decade working at the intersection of clinical care and community-based health systems in underserved and resource-limited settings. Her work primarily focuses on integrating palliative care into primary healthcare within rural environments.

Through her work, she has established dedicated pain and palliative care OPDs within the public health system, including at medical colleges and urban primary health centers. She was instrumental in making oral morphine available at the district level across three districts in northern Chhattisgarh, significantly bridging the gap in essential narcotic access.

Dr Khanna is a strong advocate for nurse-led models of care and grassroots leadership. She holds an MBBS from Maulana Azad Medical College, Delhi and an MD from PGIMS Rohtak and remains deeply committed to addressing the social determinants of health to ensure that palliative care and pain relief are accessible to the most vulnerable populations.
