Good communication is an essential skill in palliative medicine but many of us have never had any formal communication skills training. Research shows that communication skills workshops are an effective way to build skills and confidence in having challenging conversations and this workshop is taught using the VitalTalk method, an evidence-based approach to communication skills training for serious illness conversations.
This half-day workshop provides a safe and interactive environment for participants to hone their communication skills under the guidance of trained facilitators.
Key Skills covered: Recognising and Responding to Emotion and Discussing Difficult News
Educational Framework: VitalTalk method, based on AChPM Communication Skills Workshops
Format: small group facilitated role play with professional actors – two patient scenarios
Participants: registrars and consultants – taught in separate groups
If you have already registered for the conference and wish to add on the workshop, please contact Daniella.
